Big Babies

My beloved dad [God rest his soul] used to tell us as to the arrival of the first child in a marriage, "The first one can come at any time; all the rest take 9 months."

He used this to explain the phenomena of 8 pound preemies.

Feline-y-esque?

We were tweeting about the 'loop' we were in...one thought it was an Endless Loop. I said I'm in the Curiosity Loop. It killed the cat, ya know? Then Annie sent this --rare!-- funny New Yorker cartoon:
Thanks, Ms. Gottlieb!

Military Precision re: Cleaning

I couldn't get this to embed. It takes about a minute. It's cute and reminded me of my nephew, a new Infantry soldier currently stationed in Iraq.

Good Enough to Eat

The kids' vocabulary is growing. We recently added 'siblings' to their lexicon. When I showed Annie the picture of all the children with Santa Claus, I asked her who's that with you? And she said, 'my dumplings.'

She learned that word on Thanksgiving.

A Two-fer

I really enjoy GaryVarvel's style of political cartooning. Today's is a good reminder of what we might expect if Hillary becomes Secretary of State.

And I say 'if' because of a little-heard word: emoluments.

Funny Sonny

Zeke: Mama, why did the chewing gum cross the road?

Me: Hmmm. I don't know. To get to the other side?

Zeke: No! Because it was stuck to a chicken!

[Whereupon he falls into a laughing puddle on the rug.]

Gone With The Wind / Carol Burnett Show Spoof

The previous post got me thinking about Carol Burnett and this send-up of my favorite movie. It takes about 20 minutes. Clear out some time and enjoy.

and part two:

Dinah Shore as Miss Melanie is inspired and Harvey Korman as Ratt Butler is beautiful.

SNL Funnay

This is the sketch that had David and me laughing into the commercial break. I don't know if it just struck a funny bone with us. But it's definitely not political.

Optimist's Humor

Prior to tonight, this comic, Dimitri Martin, was unknown to me. I'd rate this PG-13.

Thanks to RH Hardin for 'pointing' it out to me.

I Sympathize With Harvey...

...who loses his composure in the face of the comedic genius of Tim Conway.

Thanks for the reminder, Pastor Jeff!

That Voo-Doo That You Do So Well...

Laffer curve? Hawley-Smoot Tariff Act? I heard these terms yesterday and thought of this:

Funny thing is: when this movie came out, I glazed over like my contemporaries, the students. Now? I know what he's talking about.

Humor 101

The other day, I had all three kids in the van en route to something. They were watching their onboard DVD of some Warner Brothers cartoon. Now the van DVDs get sporadic, but repetitive viewing. They were watching this:

They called out in unison the line, "Dead?! I didn't even know he was sick!" and it made me laugh out loud in the front seat. They all clamored to know what was so funny. It took me awhile, but I explained it as we continued driving. I didn't see the cartoon until today to get the sight gag that goes with it.

And many thanks to Zeke who has an encyclopedic knowledge of those Warner Brothers cartoons. I gave him the line and he gave me the title. I said, "That was a Tweety cartoon? I could've sworn it was a Bugs one!"

This is the good stuff.

Stand-Up Presidential Polling

My pal, XWL at Immodest Proposals, has an absolutely hilarious vlog of comedian/magician Penn Gillette giving his presidential pick based on two nights of "polling" his own audience. It's probably about as scientific [and accurate] as anything Zogby could gather.

Warning: the joke he tells is offensive. And it's not good news for Senator Clinton, either.

Pirate Pun

A pirate walks into a bar with a steering wheel on his crotch. He goes up to the bar to order a drink. The bartender exclaims, "Do you realize you've got a steering wheel on your crotch?!" The pirate grimaces in answer and says, "Yarrr...it be drivin' me nuts!"

Stolen on the bloggy high seas from MetaFilter. [There are many, many more 'intellectual' jokes in that very long thread.] Enjoy the booty.

Puns Galore

Thanks to Pastor Jeff for his latest contribution to my ongoing pun collection. It's especially apt to send to a Catholic woman on a Friday during Lent:

Two guys were out fishing on a lake when one of them dropped his wallet over the side of the boat. The man was amazed to see a carp swim by and snatch it up. Soon, another carp came up and stole it away, then a third joined in.The man turns to his friend and says, "That's the first time I've ever seen carp-to-carp walleting."

And, if you have a strong stomach for bodily fluid talk and don't mind a PG-13 rating, go over to my friend Annie's place and see what we've been spewing.

French Insults

Courtesy of Monty Python and the miracle of YouTube:

I'm French. Why do you think I have this outrageous accent?
