Hey, What's with the Profile Photo?

Today, for the first time, I posted my profile photo on the sidebar. It's me, circa 1969, in first grade. I was a little self-conscious about my big gap in my front teeth and so all I could muster was an impish smirk. Mom did my hair nicely for school. Unfortunately, by the time the photographer met me, we had a breezy recess. I was wearing my one-and-only store-bought dress. As the third daughter of a mother who sewed, I usually got the same dress in size Mary and size Peggy. I had the extra special accessory: the drum majorette pin.

Why the nostalgic profile photo? All the cool kids are doing it. But beyond that, I look at me in that photo and I see a happy kid, brimming with optimism. She grew up to become The Maternal Optimist.

Boy, that really is you isn't it? I would have known you anywhere. I believe I've seen that impish grin a few times in the last 20 years; but not from hiding teeth!!! LOL

Okay. Hmm. Alright, you're cute. It's official.

You've shamed me into it. I posted one too on my profile.

But let's all face it. There's no way we can compete with xwl. The Sinatra hat, the drool bib; the guy reeks savoire faire.

We're all angling for second place at this point.

Kathie: The problem is that I am now starting to see my children in that picture.

Sippican: I think it's a trend. It might have a softening effect on the discourse, doncha' think? If quxxxooo, or whatever he goes by these days, tries to be mean, there's your dapper little face smiling back at him.

I think you win 2nd place.

I don't know, bow ties are pretty cool, too.

I guess I could break out the 3rd grade class picture in the Hawaiian shirt, for a change of pace.

(And I didn't realize I was a 'cool kid')

(Also, I've always had a weakness for redheads, though not married women)

Hey Ruth -

And....how many teeth did you have in the photo? *grin*

NB - This is an insider joke...Ruth's mom used to put on baby photos how many teeth the child had at the time the photo was taken. Mom (my mom, too) gave me a photo of our Dad taken in Myrtle Beach on his 77th b-day. I asked Mom how many teeth he had and I wrote it down. 2. Gotta love traditions.

Very cute photo, Kinswardio.

Love,

Peggy :-)
